European Funding Call Launched for Composite Applications in Defence
4 February 2026
On 28 January 2026, the first cascade funding call within the EDF MaJoR project was officially launched. This call offers significant opportunities for SMEs and start-ups active in composites and multi-material technologies, with applications in air, naval and land-based defence systems.
The call is part of the European Defence Fund (EDF) and enables selected companies to receive up to €60,000 in funding, combined with an intensive six-month business development programme. The submission deadline is 25 March 2026 at 17:00 (CET).
Focus on Maintenance, Joining and Repair of Hybrid Structures
The MaJoR project aims to modernise defence platforms through technological innovation in maintenance, inspection and structural joining. This makes the call particularly relevant for companies within the composites sector, including those without prior experience in defence applications.
Up to 30 innovative companies will be selected to provide technological solutions in one or more of the following areas:
-
Design and joining of hybrid (composite) structures
-
Reversible joining technologies
-
Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) and Usage Monitoring Systems (HUMS)
-
Non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques for bonded joints
-
Digital tools, AI and decision-support systems for maintenance and structural assessment
Who Can Apply?
The call is open to SMEs and start-ups established in EU Member States, Norway or Ukraine. Both established defence suppliers and newcomers to the defence sector are strongly encouraged to apply.
Why Participate?
In addition to financial support and tailored coaching, participation in the MaJoR project provides opportunities for international collaboration, access to defence innovation networks, and a strengthened innovation position for your organisation.
More information about this call is available on the European Commission website.
Applications can be submitted via the Funding & Tenders Portal – MaJoR sub-call.
