Dutch composites industry at JEC World 2020 in Paris with Netherlands Pavilion

20 February 2020

Special: book release: Designing Lightness: Structures for Saving Energy

Delft, 20 February 2020 – From 3 – 5 March, the Dutch composites industry will represent itself at the JEC World 2020, the largest composites expo in the world, in Paris. In the Netherlands Pavilion, the Dutch composites industry will be properly placed in the spotlight. The pavilion, featuring 16 companies and knowledge institutions, forms the showcase of what the composites industry in the Netherlands has to offer at an international level.

Developments in the areas of materials engineering and chemistry have made countless new technologies and applications possible, including composites. The Netherlands has a very strong position in the area of advanced materials, and is on the way to becoming world leader as a technological supplier of “rational material design” for materials with a high added value and clean energy, such as composites.

The Netherlands is Country on Stage at JEC WORLD 2020
On Wednesday 4 March, a special programme takes place as part of the ‘Country on Stage’. During this 1.5-hour programme, the first release of the book Designing Lightness: Structures for Saving Energy will take place. This book describes the evolution of composite materials over the past 25 years. After the JEC, Adriaan Beukers will also present the book Designing Lightness: Structures for Saving Energy to a wider audience and give readings at various locations in the Netherlands.

Other topics that will be covered are specific applications and the applied composite technology of the future. Technologies that contribute to solutions for the energy transition and the search for sustainable solutions will be illustrated using business cases that reduce CO2 emissions. The objective-driven innovation policy of the Dutch government is an important motivator, as will be shown by three showcases of innovations and circularity in infrastructure, the automotive sector and wind energy.
